Available Testing

Whether you are a new student, a current student or a community member, we offer a professional setting for you to take your exams. Through our Testing Services department, we offer many different testing and assessment services, including:

TSI Placement Testing: The TSI placement test will measure your skill levels in reading comprehension, writing/English, and mathematics. The TSI test fee is $35.00 for the entire battery, $24.00 for two tests and $12.00 for one test. Prior to taking the TSI Placement Exam, you must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity.

Academic Testing for Online/Hybrid Courses: At the instructor’s discretion, if students are enrolled in an online or hybrid course, they may take their exams in our Testing Center. Additionally, if the student is not local, they have the option of taking their exams at approved tests sites or through an online proctoring service called Examity.

Bennett Mechanical Test: The Automotive Technology, Welding Technology, Electrical and Electronic Technology and HVAC & Refrigeration programs require you to take the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test (BMCT). This is a timed test and it is free.

CLEP: The TJC Testing Services department offers you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on the various CLEP examinations. To start, you will need to set up an account with CLEP at http://www.collegeboard.org/testing. Then schedule an appointment with the Testing Services main campus testing center to take the CLEP exam. There is an $89.00 testing fee paid online to CLEP when scheduling your exam. There is also a $25.00 proctoring fee paid on the day the appointment is made. ID required.

GED: The GED measures skills in four subject areas.  All tests must be taken and passed to earn your high school equivalency diploma.  The amount of time required to complete the entire battery of tests is 425 minutes. To schedule an appointment for the GED, please visit https://ged.com. You will need to create an account and follow the on-screen prompts for scheduling the testing. 

HESI Testing (only for TJC Students): The HESI Test is a comprehensive exam that evaluates the academic and social skills of new applicants to many of our Allied Health programs. This exam evaluates your math skills, reading skills, science knowledge, vocabulary, social interaction, stress level, learning style, and personality profile. We administer the HESI by appointment only. The cost of the HESI is $50.00; the HESI GAP is $75.00. You must visit with a program representative prior to testing. We administer the HESI to TJC students in the Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Surgical Technology programs.

ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS): The TEAS exam is a comprehensive exam that evaluates academic skills of new applicants to some of our Allied Health programs. This exam evaluates your reading, math, science and English skills. We administer the TEAS by appointment only. There is a $65.00 testing fee paid online to ATI Testing when scheduling your exam. There is also a $25.00 proctoring fee paid on the day the appointment is made.

Test Proctoring for Online Courses: At the instructor’s discretion, if students are enrolled in an online course, they may take their exams in our Testing Center. Additionally, if the student is not local, they have the option of taking their online tests at approved test sites, such as junior or community colleges, or military bases. Information for students regarding online course test proctoring can be located at: http://www.tjc.edu/info/20026/online_degrees/130/test_proctoring. Tests are administered on a walk-in basis.

Pearson-VUE: Pearson-VUE is the global leader in computer-based testing for IT, academic, and professional programs. Through our authorized Pearson-VUE Testing Center at TJC West, we offer a variety of computer-based tests on behalf of the world’s leading IT and professional companies, such as: ACSM, Adobe, Cisco, Microsoft, C++, Citrix, CompTIA, Excelsior College, Oracle, and VMWare.

To schedule a test with our Pearson VUE Testing Center, you will need to visit the following website:www.pearsonvue.com/programs. Follow all onscreen prompts to set up your Pearson-VUE account and to schedule your exam. Please note that you should arrive at TJC West testing facility 15 to 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Two forms of ID are required, including one government-issued photo ID.

Proctoring Services for Other Institutions: TJC will proctor tests for students who take correspondence, continuing education, or distance learning courses from other colleges and universities. There is a $35.00 proctoring fee for most tests. These services can be arranged by calling 903.510.2051.

ACT WorkKeys: WorkKeys is a division of ACT, Inc. that is dedicated to assessing what skills are necessary for employees to be successful in the workplace. ACT WorkKeys scores help job seekers compare their skills to the skills real jobs require. These scores help employers choose the most qualified candidates for their jobs.

Through WorkKeys, we offer a wide array of exams, including: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, Workplace Documents and Applied Technology. To schedule your WorkKeys exam, please contact our TJC WorkKeys Site Administrator at 903.510.2389. To set up a testing account for you, the Administrator will ask for your name and birthdate.

Castle Worldwide: The Tyler Junior College West Testing Facility is a certified testing center for Castle Worldwide exams. Castle Worldwide provides testing services to certification and licensure organization, corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, and trade and professional associations.

Here are a few examples of organizations we test for through Castle: American Council on Exercise, Board of Pharmacy Specialist, Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, and Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.

Performance Assessment Network (PAN): The TJC West Testing Center is part of the PAN Testing Center Network. PAN is a leading provider of web-delivered, high-stakes testing and assessment solutions for major government and corporate clients, specializing in pre-employment selection, promotional, personality, and skills assessments, such as: FBI, Custom and Border Protection and TSA.

Professional Services Industries (PSI): PSI is the largest test development and delivery organization in the country. Through PSI, we administer a variety of professional, certification and licensure exams for a variety of organizations, including: USPS, FCC, TDLR Electrician, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Fire Marshall, American Academic of Nurse Practitioner and WGU.

Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP): We have partnered with TCFP to provide the following online exams: Instructor I, Instructor II, Instructor III, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer III, Fire Officer IV, Driver/Operator-Aerial, Driver/Operator Pumper, HazMat IC and Basic Wildland. $25.00 proctoring fee.
