Dental hygienists are licensed oral health professionals who focus on preventing and treating oral diseases in order to preserve healthy teeth and gums as they relate to the patient’s overall health.

Licensure

Graduates who successfully pass the Dental Hygiene National Board examination and regional and/or state licensing exams are eligible to apply for licensure in states where they plan to practice.

TJC is an open admissions college; however, acceptance into the Dental Hygiene Program is limited. Please submit a Selective Admissions Application to be considered for admission.

For students in this program who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas. If you have a question about your background and licensure, please speak with your faculty member or the department chair. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.
