TJC to stage mock emergency drill near Rose Stadium on Tuesday

TJC will hold a mock emergency exercise from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, between Mike Carter Field and Rose Stadium, located on Fair Park Drive in Tyler.

Tyler Junior College will hold a mock emergency exercise on Tuesday, collaborating with the TJC fire and law enforcement academies, emergency medical services professions, communications, and theatre departments.

The event will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the parking lot between Mike Carter Field and Rose Stadium on Fair Park Drive in Tyler.

By simulating a multi-vehicle accident involving an intoxicated driver, this scenario will allow students to experience various challenges, such as extinguishing a fire, rescuing passengers, providing medical attention, securing the scene, and addressing legal/media interaction best practices.

In addition to the TJC student emergency responders, theatre students will portray accident victims while communications students will serve as media representatives covering the crash scene.

The event aims to provide real-world training for the participating students and improve department collaboration and communication during emergencies. An on-site press conference will also be held to update the student media on the situation and provide the real-world experience of questioning public officials.

All safety precautions will be taken during the event, and police and fire cadets will be staged to ensure the event’s security.
