TJC reveals Friday Night Scoreboard scholarship winners

During this past football season, Harlen the Sports Guy and Pigskin Bob from the Friday Night Scoreboard radio show (KYKX 105.7 & 104.1 The Ranch) crashed 13 high school pep rallies across East Texas.

At each event, the radio duo announced a Future Apache of the Week, sponsored by Tyler Junior College, and a Cheerleader of the Week, sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital.

In all, 26 students were nominated by leaders at their respective high schools, for demonstrated excellence and tenacity.

On Saturday, March 25, the weekly winners gathered on the TJC main campus for drawings to name the final winners in each category.

Future Apache of the Week was A’Kinzy Black, of Grace Community School, who won a $1,005 scholarship sponsored by TJC; and Cheerleader of the Week was Malynn Hable, also of Grace Community School, who won a $1,005 scholarship sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital.

The scholarships were presented by Dr. Juan E. Mejia, TJC president, and Kim Lessner, vice president for operations and chief operations officer.

In addition, Mejia awarded a $500 scholarship to all future TJC students who attended the event, including:
