TJC’s Family Learning Center of Tyler commended in annual report

TJC’s Family Learning Center of Tyler has been commended for outcomes in its recent annual report.

It remains in compliance with industry standards, according to a recent report from the National Accreditation Commission.

The center was established in 2007 as a collaborative project of Tyler Junior College, the Literacy Council of Tyler and Tyler ISD.

It also serves as TJC’s Child Development/Early Childhood Education Laboratory School, providing opportunities for hands-on learning for college students preparing for careers in early childhood professions.

“The Family Learning Center of Tyler strives to be a model of excellence in childcare and early childhood education,” said center director Carrol McGlaun “The classrooms provide quality educational services to young children and their families in a warm and nurturing environment.”

The center is located at the Tyler ISD Douglas Elementary Campus Annex, convenient to downtown Tyler, the medical district and several Tyler ISD schools.

Early childhood teachers have, or are pursuing, an associate degree in early childhood or a related field. Support staff members have completed child development/early childhood coursework.
