ETSO Jazz Spectacular features TJC groups, guest artist Andy Martin

Andy Martin’s name might not sound familiar, but he and his trombone are well known and in high demand in the entertainment world.

Martin’s work can be heard on more than 150 movie soundtracks, including “Flags of Our Fathers,” “Anchorman,” “Cars,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Finding Nemo,” and on such television shows as “American Idol,” “Dancing With the Stars” and “Family Guy.”

He has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz and popular music, including Coldplay, Michael Bublé and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band; and he has played for virtually every awards show, including the Grammys, Emmys, Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

Martin will perform with the Tyler Junior College Jazz Ensemble in the annual East Texas Symphony Orchestra Jazz Spectacular set 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Liberty Hall, located at 103 E. Erwin St., in downtown Tyler.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available online at www.etso.org and at the door before the concert.

“It’s always a thrill to have someone of Andy’s caliber to teach and perform with our student groups,” said Heather Mensch, TJC jazz band director.

“Many of our students aspire to be professional musicians, so it’s a phenomenal opportunity for them to work side by side with the pros, learning from and performing with one of the best in the business.”
