The Tyler Junior College Promise Program recently hosted more than 100 seniors from Tyler ISD for a Senior Day celebration.
During their freshman year, the students signed the TJC Promise Pledge in which students who maintain certain standards of attendance, persistence and community service can earn up two years of free tuition and fees at TJC.
“We are so proud of these students who have worked hard to maintain their TJC Promise eligibility,” said Augusta Robinson, TJC Promise director.
The students were treated to campus tours, plus a look at TJC’s academic programs and student life opportunities.
The TJC Promise — an ambitious initiative launched in 2016 as part of TJC’s 90th anniversary — was created in to promote a college-going culture that will strengthen the local workforce into the future.
The Promise provides an earned scholarship to eligible high school students within the College’s tax district, including: Chapel Hill, Grand Saline, Lindale, Tyler, Van and Winona. It funds up to two years of college for students who meet the standards of the program while attending high school.
Since the program began, 1,521 East Texas students have chosen to further their education at TJC.
