TJC receives $23,500 donation from Cooperative Teachers Credit Union for faculty development programs

TJC has received a $23,500 gift from the Cooperative Teachers Credit Union, enabling TJC’s Center for Learning and Development to further enhance its faculty growth and innovation initiatives.

This contribution will directly support the Faculty First Year Experience, the Active Learning Academy, and the Great Teachers Retreat, which provide TJC educators with exceptional professional development opportunities.

“We are deeply appreciative of the Cooperative Teachers Credit Union’s commitment to fostering excellence in teaching,” said Amanda Richardson, TJC director of learning and development. “This investment will allow our talented faculty to explore new pedagogical approaches, refine their skills, and collaborate on innovative strategies that enrich the learning experience for our students.”

The investment will directly support the following programs:

• The Faculty First Year Experience equips faculty members who are new to Tyler Junior College with the knowledge, skills, and resources to thrive in their first year and lay the foundation for a successful teaching career.

• The Active Learning Academy is designed to empower faculty to enhance student success through exploration and implementation of an active learning framework. Faculty who participate will learn different strategies to lead and facilitate engaging learning experiences for their students. Throughout this series, participants will have the opportunity to practice, observe, reflect, discuss and redesign for a truly immersive and transformative experience

• TJC’s Great Teachers Retreat is based on the National Great Teaching Seminar, a movement that began in 1969. This movement is based on the premise that faculty learn best from other faculty and that creativity is enhanced by mixing faculty of diverse disciplines, experience levels and interest. The emphasis is on the universals of teaching and on the special nature of those who are and aspire to be great teachers.

Richardson added, “By investing in these initiatives, the Cooperative Teachers Credit Union is supporting TJC’s culture of lifelong learning and innovation, ultimately enhancing the educational journey for our students and enriching our community.”
