TJC to host series of free small business funding development workshops

Small business startup funding is one of the largest and most challenging steps for every new entrepreneur.

Tyler Junior College’s Business Management department and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are teaming up to offer a series of free lunch-and-learn workshops on Fridays, Oct. 25 and Nov. 15, for those who wish to learn about starting a small business or growing their current business.

Led by TJC professors Josh Edinger and Jennifer Coon, the workshops will address the two most frequent and pressing issues facing individuals who want to start their own businesses: accessing startup capital and licensing/reporting requirements.

Edinger and Brandon Green of Southside Bank will host the Oct. 25 workshop, focused on accessing capital. Coon will lead the Nov. 15 session, which will concentrate on licensing and reporting requirements.

The events will be held from noon to 1 p.m. each Friday, in Room 1.131 of the Rogers Nursing & Health Sciences Center, located at 1200 E. Fifth St., on the TJC central campus. Free lunch will be provided for the first 30 attendees. To register, go to TJC.edu/SmallBusinessWorkshop.

“These workshops offer a great opportunity for trades workers who are already in the industry but might be thinking about branching out to work for themselves,” said Deborah Welch, TJC Business Management department chair/professor. “By offering them during the lunch hour, we hope this is a convenient time for them to attend.”
