Audiences are invited on the ultimate trek into the nation’s awe-inspiring outdoors and untamed wilderness in “National Parks Adventure,” which opens Friday, June 10, at the TJC science center.
Show times are 2 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays in the 40-foot dome theater in the Center for Earth & Space Science Education at TJC, located at 1411 E. Lake St., on the TJC main campus.
Moviegoers will soar over red rock canyons, hurtle down steep mountain peaks and explore otherworldly realms found within America’s most legendary outdoor places. Along the way, the film becomes an action-packed celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the National Park Service.
“National Parks Adventure captures the stunning beauty of our wild places and reminds us these landscapes are an essential part of the human spirit,” said Robert Redford, narrator of the film and Academy Award winner.
The 43-minute movie was filmed in more than 30 national parks across the country. This film follows world-class mountaineer Conrad Anker, adventure photographer Max Lowe and artist Rachel Pohl as they hike, climb and explore their way across America’s spectacularly wild and beautiful places, including Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Yosemite and Arches. “National Parks Adventure” celebrates the majesty of America’s national parks and treasured landscapes while highlighting the importance of protecting them.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, Marco's Pizza will provide free slices of pizza for everyone who purchases a ticket to see a show that day. Before the 2 p.m. Saturday showing, staff will also raffle prizes including movie posters, T-shirts, and plush toy prairie dogs that are featured in the film.
Tickets are $5 for children, seniors and students and $7 for adults. Day passes are also available which allow visitors to see all of that day’s shows plus the interactive exhibit, “Sonic Sensations.”
Tickets can be purchased at the front counter or online at sciencecenter.tjc.edu. Seating is limited and it is recommended that tickets are purchased in advance.
The Center for Earth & Space Science Education at TJC engages more than 30,000 visitors per year and is a one-of-a-kind teaching, learning and special-occasion space located in the heart of East Texas.
