If I had something stolen from campus, do I need to contact other police departments and report it to them as well?
No. When you call to report a stolen item, the officer will ask for a description of the item. If you are able to provide enough information, such as make, model and serial number, we will be able to enter the item in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer database. This database contains records of stolen property from law enforcement agencies in all 50 states. If another agency were to recover your property, it could check the NCIC database and match information that might help you get your property back.
