The committee is charged with the responsibility of considering whether the action received in a particular case is justified and either endorsing this action or recommending an alternate decision.

To promote continuous improvement and enhancement of student learning through the use of assessment data; to discuss and share assessment strategies, make assessment resources available to encourage continued learning about assessment, and maintain the College’s Learning Outcomes; to serve as a repository for faculty, department and school assessment efforts; and to encourage challenging and creative student-centered instruction.

To assist deans/department chairs in devising and implementing an ongoing process of program review that is appropriate for each department/program; to provide resources and recommendations to departments pertaining to the means and methods of program review at appropriate intervals for the purpose of departmental and institutional development; to encourage a campus conversation that establishes the value of a college-wide program review process for our own use; to monitor concerns over the review process, and respond to expressed concerns as for the collection and reporting of student/program data.

Data Standards (Larry Mendez)
To protect the integrity of Tyler Junior College (TJC) data housed in any application with particular emphasis on information stored in the Banner Information System and other systems which interface with Banner. The committee is comprised of members of the TJC Community who come together to set standards concerning information stored in any application. These standards are determined through consensus of all constituents involved to find solutions that work for TJC coupled with best practices established by peer institutions.

To establish a culture of leadership, academic excellence, and collaboration through research and identification of best practices for department/program chairs/program coordinators among the state and nation’s junior/community colleges and development of strategies toward institutional implementation; identification of strategies for consistent and equitable implementation of practices and procedures among the College’s schools; achievement of high standards in department chair/program coordinator performance of duties and responsibilities; examination of ways to enhance communication between department chairs and program coordinators with both internal and external offices affecting duties and responsibilities; and recommendations to TJC administrators and offices regarding increasing effectiveness, efficiency and economics of departments and programs directed by department chairs and program coordinators.
