TJC offers new industrial maintenance program

Tyler Junior College will soon debut a new program designed to put graduates to work immediately.

Beginning in the fall semester, TJC will offer an Associate of Applied Science degree in industrial maintenance technology.

The TJC Industrial Maintenance Technology Program will be housed in the Energy Center at TJC West, located at 1530 South Southwest Loop 323 in Tyler.

Designed for professionals who excel in a variety of industrial disciplines, the program will prepare students for a broad range of careers using an industry-guided curriculum combined with practical, hands-on experience.

“We worked directly with leaders from Tyler Pipe, Trane/Ingersoll-Rand, Sanderson Farms, Nestle, Target, Eastman Chemical and others to develop a curriculum so students can go directly into the workforce after they graduate,” said Dr. Bryan Renfro, dean of the TJC School of Professional and Technical Programs.

Students in the two-year program will learn pneumatics, mechanical drives, hydraulics, electrical instrumentation, HVAC/R, rigging, boiler operation and other skills to help them become well-rounded, multi-craft workers.

Graduates can expect an average pay range of $50,000-$100,000 per year.

Students will leave TJC with portable, industry-recognized credentials that will make them employable wherever they choose to live and work.
