TJC, Suddenlink team for training program

The Tyler Junior College School of Continuing Studies is now partnering with Suddenlink Communications to offer a training program in Telecommunications Installation.

Individuals interested in pursing a certificate in the field are encouraged to contact the School of Continuing Studies at 903-510-2900.

The Telecommunications Installation course will provide hands-on training in video, high-speed Internet and telephone installation. After successful course completion, students who choose to do so will be prepared to take an exam for certification by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).

Suddenlink, which provides local TV, Internet and phone services, is the seventh largest cable operator in the United States and employs nearly 6,000. More than half those employees reside in Texas and Oklahoma.

"We’re very pleased to offer this program with TJC’s assistance," said Suddenlink Director of Human Resources Barbara Morrison. "Completion of the curriculum and a successful score on the examination can ultimately lead to SCTE certification for prospective broadband technicians. We developed this program to help open doors for employment opportunities in our industry in Texas and Oklahoma. While applicants for Suddenlink employment will still need to go through a selection process, completion of TJC’s course will lay a great foundation."

Telecommunications Installation is available to high school graduates and high school seniors on path to graduate. Students must take basic reading and math assessments, pass a criminal background check, provide proof of age and proof of high school enrollment or graduation.

"This is a great opportunity for our students and our community," said TJC Dean of Continuing Studies Dr. Aubrey Sharpe, "Once again, we are proud to partner with our good friends at Suddenlink and we hope this program proves to be mutually beneficial for years to come."

For more information, prospective students may contact Director, Sales and Marketing, TJC Continuing Studies Judie Bower, at 903-510-2969 or jbow@tjc.edu.
