The staff of TJC’s literary magazine, The Bell Tower Arts Journal, brought home several awards from the recent Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention.
The Bell Tower highlights literary, photographic, graphic and visual works created solely by TJC students.
“We always do very well, thanks to our talented students,” said Dr. Linda Gary, faculty adviser and TJC English professor.
“This is particularly significant because the TIPA literary magazine contest is an open category, which means we are not only up against other two-year schools but also any four-year colleges or universities who enter student works from their literary magazines.”
TJC award-winners were:
First place, Essay – Christopher Ivan Holliness of Tyler
Honorable mention, Essay – Austin Wallace of Chapel Hill
Second place, Illustration – Robert DeSanchez of Tyler
Third place, Overall Excellence – The Bell Tower Arts Journal
Honorable mention, Cover Design – Michael Morse of Tyler
Honorable mention, Poem – Julie Speaks of Sunnyvale, California
Honorable mention, Photo – Samantha Schalik of Tyler
