TJC ag club earns awards at state convention

The Tyler Junior College Agriculture Club returned with numerous awards from the Texas Junior College Agriculture State Convention in Lubbock.

Seven TJC students attended the convention hosted by Texas Tech University, including: Hannah Chaney, Edgewood; J.D. Conaway, Hawkins; Payton Hunter, Lindale; Chris Mackey, Whitehouse; Clayton Parmley, Flint; Jessica Sanderson, Jacksonville; and Josh Willis, Lindale.

Faculty adviser is Jeannie Lafferty.

The students competed in multiple contests and brought home the following:

Chapter awards:
1st place Scrapbook, headed by committee members Chane, Sanderson and Parmley
2nd place Outstanding Chapter
2nd place Sweepstakes
3rd place Public Relations, headed by Mackey and Parmley

Individual awards:
8th in Animal Science to Hunter
5th in Agronomy to Mackey
4th in Ag Economics to Hunter
8th in Wildlife to Conaway
9th in Wildlife to Sanderson
2nd in Horticulture to Sanderson
5th in Horticulture to Conaway
7th in Horticulture to Parmley
4th in Ag Mechanics to Mackey

In addition to the contests, the TJC group participated in Lubbock-area educational tours of the American Cotton Growers Denim Mill, Prairie Dog Town, and the Windmill Museum.
