COVID-19 Information Center

Ornelas Health & Physical Education Center

The Ornelas Health & Physical Education Center, located at TJC's main campus, opened in 1986 and serves the public, academia and general student body needs in fitness and recreation.

Additionally, it serves Continuing Studies, Intramurals, and Special Events. Fun and fitness are strongly encouraged. The Ornelas HPE Center schedule varies with the semesters.

We encourage fitness that is a combination of physical, mental, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well being in a healthy, safe, and positive environment.

OHPE Closed for Recreational Use

To All OHPE Patrons, Employees and Students:

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to persist, and unfortunately is requiring that we all make adjustments in both our work activities and personal lives.

Since the COVID-19 crisis began, we have carefully considered the use of the Ornelas Health and Physical Education (OHPE) and how to best maintain the health and safety of the many people who enjoy the use of our wonderful facility, whether for recreational activity or instructional purposes.

Because instruction is the core of our mission at TJC, we take numerous precautions and a certain degree of risk for instruction, but we cannot take the risk for recreational activities during this health crisis. Therefore, we have come to the difficult decision that it is best to close the OHPE except for instructional purposes (which include both academic and some continuing education courses). Unfortunately, the pool is closed for all usage. The OHPE will close effective end of day Friday, August 7 for the duration of the health crisis.

We know this news comes as a disappointment to you, but it is imperative that we take actions that are in the best interests of the College and our TJC community.

We hope the pandemic will be over soon and we will be able to again offer the services of the OHPE. In the meantime, for resources and announcements, please visit our COVID-19 information center
