Theatre TJC will close its 2016-17 season with a voyage on a pirate ship, back to the early days of Neverland.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” offers a humorous, fantastical and sometimes musical backstory for the beloved character of Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis, Captain Hook.
The Tony Award-winning play was written by Rick Elice and adapted from the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist and former newspaper columnist Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, with music by Wayne Barker.
The production is under the direction of Rebecca Faulds-Howard, TJC theater professor.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 26-29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Jean Browne Theatre on the TJC main campus.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free with a valid TJC ID. Box office hours are from noon to 6 p.m. weekdays through the run of the show. For reservations, call 903-510-2212.
In this wickedly imaginative play, we meet a poor orphaned child on the high seas simply called Boy because, in the absence of a mother and a father, he was never given a name.
His lonely existence takes a turn for the better when he meets our heroine, Molly. The daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Astor, Molly is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure chest filled with magical star stuff from getting into the hands of evil and greedy pirate, Black Stache.
As they travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.
