Online and Off-Campus TSI Testing
We always prefer that you come to TJC, or take the TSI at a local community college testing center. However, we understand that this may not always be possible. In that case, taking the TSI online or at a remote testing center might be an option.
STEP ONE: You must complete a TSI Pre-Assessment Activity.
STEP TWO: There are two different ways for you to take the TSI Assessment: (1) Off-Campus Remote Proctoring and (2) Online Proctoring.
1: Off-Campus Remote Proctoring
If you live near an institution of higher learning that has a testing center, you may choose to take your TSI assessment at that center. Please call your local testing center to find out if they will proctor the TSI. If they will, please obtain their contact information.
Then, to get the ball rolling, you will need to call our remote testing specialist, Barbara Monroe, at 903-510-2051. She will need to gather information from you, including the following:
Name of Institution where student would like to take the TSI(NOTE: this institution may charge the student a fee to take the test in their testing center)
Proctor Phone Number and Email Address
Using this information, Barbara will create an account and voucher number. While you are on the phone, Barbara will collect payment of $35.00 for the exam. Once payment is received, you will receive an email with instructions. Barbara will then contact the proctor to verify that they work for the institution and have the proper credentials. She will then send the proctor instructions on how to administer the exam. It will then be up to you to contact the proctor to schedule a time to come in and test.
2: Online Proctoring:
Online Remote Proctoring allows you to take the TSI at home. You must have a computer with a camera and a good internet connection. We use a company called B-Virtual who has partnered with Accuplacer to deliver the TSI.
If you choose Online Proctoring, you will need to contact our testing center first at 903-510-2051 and talk with Barbara Monroe. She will need to gather information from you, including the following:
Barbara will then create an account, accept payment of $35.00 and then create a voucher that they will use within the B-Virtual system to access the TSI exam.
Second, you will then register with B-Virtual by going to the following website: http://accuplacerlive.onlineproctornow.com. By logging onto this portal, you will be allowed to schedule a date and time to take the TSI exam. Please note that B-Virtual may call it the Accuplacer but in Texas, we call it the TSI. B-Virtual will require you to pay a $25 fee to use their service. View a step-by-step guide on B-Virtual registration and payment.
How long does the test take to complete?
Expect to devote 3 to 4 hours if taking all sections. This is an important test in determining which courses you are eligible to take.
