Section Title

In this, the dawn of the twenty-first century, the study of the basic principles of chemistry should be part of the course work of any college student. Here at TJC we offer a variety of chemistry courses. We believe that one or more of these chemistry courses may complement your degree plan. Let us help you choose the Chemistry that is right for you!!!

Note: All chemistry courses have an accompanying lab, except for CHEM 1370.

 

Chemistry Courses:

CHEM 1370: Basic Chemistry
An overview of the fundamental principles of chemistry. Strong emphasis on the use of elementary mathematics and algebra as they relate to chemistry. This course is designed as a preparatory course for science students who need to take General Chemistry but have little or no chemistry background. This course will not be counted in lieu of CHEM 1411 or CHEM 1412.


CHEM 1405: Introductory Chemistry I
A non-technical survey of chemical principles with emphasis on the role of chemistry in contemporary society. This course fulfills four hours of the science requirement for general studies, elementary education, business, computer science, liberal arts and other non-science majors.


CHEM 1406: Fundamentals of Chemistry
An introductory survey of chemical principles with emphasis on the role of chemistry in health. This course fulfills the chemistry requirement for medical laboratory technology, dental hygiene, respiratory therapy and other allied health programs. It also fulfills the chemistry requirement for BSN at most transfer institutions.


CHEM 1411 and CHEM 1412: General Chemistry I and II
A detailed survey of the fundamental laws and theories of chemistry with emphasis on problem solving. These two courses are primarily designed for chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, physician assistant, physical therapy and other science-related professional programs requiring course work in chemistry.


CHEM 2423 and CHEM 2425: Organic Chemistry I and II
A detailed survey of the chemistry of carbon compounds with emphasis on the structure, reactivity, and synthesis of organic molecules. These two courses are primarily design for chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, physician assistant and other science-related professional programs requiring two years of course work in chemistry.
