The Public Information Act - Open Records Requests Texas Government Code, Chapter 552 The Texas Public Information Act gives the public the right to request access to government information. The Act is triggered when a person submits a written request to a governmental body.
To request information you believe to be public and to be maintained by Tyler Junior College, please submit an Open Records Request to Fred M. Peters, Director of Marketing and Public Information, P.O. Box 9020 Tyler, Texas 75711-9020. Email: fpet@tjc.edu.
You may ask to view the information, get copies of the information or both. There is a fee for copied items, as allowed under the Texas Administrative Code, Title 1, Part 5, Chapter 111.C. Tyler Junior College also may charge an additional fee for requests entailing a significant amount of staff time and resources to compile. The College will notify the requestor in advance of the cost for such work. According to the Office of the Attorney General of Texas: "If an officer for public information cannot produce public information for inspection or duplication within ten business days after the date the information is requested, section 552.221(d) requires the officer to certify that fact in writing to the requestor and set a date and hour within a reasonable time when the information will be available for inspection or duplication. The officer for public information or the officer's agent shall treat all requests for information uniformly without regard to the position or occupation of the requestor, the person on whose behalf the request is made or the status of the individual as a member of the media."
