Advising and Career Services

Before seeing an advisor you should have accomplished the following:

  1. You have been admitted and have an A-number.
  2. You have submitted all required transcripts.
  3. You have completed placement testing and have determined your Texas Success Initiative (TSI) status.

Students must seek assistance from an Academic Advisor before attempting to register IF they:

  • are new to TJC
  • have attended TJC less than one year or have less than 24 hours credit
  • have placement test scores indicating Developmental Education coursework level and non-TSI complete status
  • are on academic probation or suspension
  • have less than a 2.0 GPA
  • need to change their major
  • need to apply for graduation

Our advisors are committed to helping you in the following areas

  • Interpreting your placement test scores and placing you in classes appropriate to those scores.
  • Selecting a major
  • Degree Plan and transfer information
  • Course selection
  • Information on campus resources
  • Information on the registration process and making sure you are clear to register.

If you are undecided on a major, please visit our Career Services site and complete the career assessments that are available.

After all steps above are completed please contact our advising office so that we can help you create a schedule of classes based on your placement test scores and major that works best for you.
