TJC, TEDC host Scandinavian leadership delegation

TJC and Tyler Economic Development Council recently hosted a leadership delegation from Sweden and Denmark.

The delegation was from Kristianstad, Sweden and their Krinova Incubator & Science Park as well as their Copenhagen, Denmark partner Otanes Network for International and Transnational Studies.

TJC was well represented though its leadership team and led in the discussion on ways to strengthen the partnership among the organizations.

“TJC is a premier institution of higher learning and the opportunity to partner and collaborate with organizations like Krinova validate the focus by the institution as world class,” said Dr. Juan E. Mejia, TJC provost and vice president for academic and student affairs. “We have visionary leaders who, in future meetings, will identify opportunities to promote outcomes to benefit our region.”

The Swedish delegation was led by Dr. Mostafa Malki, professor at the University of North Texas at Dallas, who has done extensive work in the United States and Mexico to promote strategic planning and business development.

TJC’s Dean for Continuing Studies and Executive Administrator at TJC West, Dr. Aubrey Sharpe, facilitated the work session among the attendees.

“The meeting was energetic and collaborative. The level of new ideas was impressive and there seem to be exciting possibilities for East Texas partnerships with Krinova and Dr. Malki,” said Dr. Sharpe.
Mejia added, “I am very proud of the TJC leadership team, and we are very fortunate to have access to an economic development leader like Tom Mullins.” Mullins serves as the president/CEO of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and Tyler Economic Development Council.
