TJC Wind Ensemble to perform Dec. 2 at Winona High School

The Tyler Junior College Wind Ensemble is taking its act on the road, with the group’s final fall performance set 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the Winona High School auditorium.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

“Wise Auditorium is currently under major renovation, so we’re excited to take this opportunity to perform at one of our TJC Promise schools,” TJC Director of Bands Jeremy Strickland said.

In addition to selections by Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst, Dmitri Shostakovich and others, the program will include “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave,” which was one of the winners of the 2019 Dallas Wind Symphony Fanfare Competition.

Strickland said, “We will also feature our host band directors from Winona High School, Justin and Adah Ketner, on ‘Cousins,’ a piece written for trumpet and horn.”

Later in December, the TJC Wind Ensemble will travel to Chicago to attend the Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference.

Now in its 73rd year, the Midwest conference draws more than 18,000 music educators and instrumentalists from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.

Strickland said, “I’m excited for our students to get to experience the Midwest Band and Orchestra clinic. They will have the opportunity to attend events and concerts presented by some of the best musicians in the world.”
