‘Nutcracker’ tickets on sale Monday, Nov. 4

This season, treat your family to a magical, shimmering holiday with Tchaikovsky’s timeless ballet, "The Nutcracker."

The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance celebrates its 25th anniversary presentation of “The Nutcracker” with music performed live by the East Texas Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Richard Lee.

Featured performers are Adrian Danchig-Waring and Abi Stafford, principal dancers with the New York City Ballet.

The production is under the guidance of Justine Pojanowski, director and choreographer, and Beth Bennett and Thereza Bryce-Cotes, assistant choreographers.

Performances will be held 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the UT Tyler Cowan Center.

Transport yourself with Clara into a glittering fantasy filled with giant mice, falling snowflakes, and waltzing flowers. Spectacular dancing, breathtaking music, and scrumptious sets and costumes make this the perfect way to introduce children and adults to the power and beauty of classical music and dance.

Adrian Danchig-Waring was born in San Francisco, Calif. He began his dance training at the age of 11 at Dance Theatre Seven with David Roxander. He entered the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet, in the fall of 2001. In October 2002, he became an apprentice with New York City Ballet, and in June 2003 he joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet. In February of 2009, he was promoted to soloist and became a principal in February 2013.

Born in Carlisle, Pa., Abi Stafford began her dance training at the age of 6 with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, under the direction of Marcia Dale Weary. 

Ms. Stafford entered the School of American Ballet full time in the fall of 1998. At SAB, she performed the role of Clarinet in Jerome Robbins’ “Fanfare” and a role in Christopher Wheeldon’s “Scènes de Ballet” for the SAB's Annual Workshop performances. She was invited to become an apprentice with New York City Ballet in November 1999 and joined the corps de ballet in January 2000. She was promoted to the rank of soloist in January 2002 and principal dancer in December 2007.

She was named the Janice Levin Dancer for the 2000-2001 season. In spring 2003, she was awarded the 2003 Martin E. Segal Award, which acknowledges the exemplary achievement of young artists.
