Tornado warnings in East Texas

Tornado warnings were issued throughout East Texas this evening with possible tornado rotation reported in Smith, Van Zandt, Cherokee, Henderson and Gregg counties.

Students, faculty and staff were urged to take shelter and pay close attention to weather-related broadcasts.

As of 8 p.m., tornado warnings in Smith County had been cancelled or allowed to expire. Thunderstorm warnings remained in the area and various tornado watches existed throughout East Texas.

During severe weather events, students, faculty and staff are urged to:

- pay close attention to local weather broadcasts and Web-delivered information'
- call the Weather Information Line, 903-510-3000, for the latest updates to class and event schedules;
- consult the TJC Web site for the latest class and event information by selecting News from the Quick Links drop-down menu; and
- seeking shelter when conditions warrant.
