Swans and Pocahontas will be center stage for DanceFest, an annual presentation by the Tyler Junior College Department of Dance and Academy of Dance.
The production runs 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, in Wise Auditorium.
All seats are $5. Tickets are available in the TJC cashier’s office in White Administrative Services Center or at Wise Auditorium Box Office prior to the performance.
“This year’s program includes two major works that represent multiple dance disciplines from ballet to modern to jazz – a full evening of breathtaking dance,” said Justine Pojanowski, director of the TJC Academy of Dance.
Perhaps the greatest classical ballet of all time, “Swan Lake,” boasts one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous and beautiful scores. Featuring selections from Acts I and II, this ballet is an astonishing example of pure classicism, technical bravado, extraordinary corps work, unparalleled grace, and heart-breaking artistry.
“Pocahontas” brings the excitement of this folkloric love story to the stage with dynamic dance sequences and powerful music. Enter the dangerous, magical, and complicated world of Jamestown 1608 and experience the struggles and triumphs of this turbulent and adventurous time.
