Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board appoints TJC Professor Stephanie Lassanske to advisory committee

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has appointed TJC Professor Stephanie Lassanske as a member of the Social Work Field of Study (FOS) Advisory Committee.

The Social Work FOS Advisory Committee helps to create the field of study degree plan for social work in Texas.

Lassanske holds an Associate of Arts from Tyler Junior College, a Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of North Texas, and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has also completed graduate course work in sociology from the University of Texas at Tyler. She was recently awarded the Thomas H. Shelby, Jr. Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence award.

Lassanske has taught social work and sociology courses at TJC since 2003, and she has been instrumental in helping facilitate and create the articulation agreement between Stephen F. Austin State University and TJC since that time. Prior to her position as a professor, she was an academic advisor from 2001 to 2003.

Because of her professional social work experience in adoption and school social work, she is able to bring practical elements to life in the classroom. She has served a critical role in coordinating seamless transfers for social work students at TJC through her advising efforts and development of articulation agreements with universities.

TJC and SFASU began a formal partnership in 2004 that offers students the opportunity to obtain their Bachelor of Social Work with minimal commute. Students complete their first two years of course work as a TJC student, then take their junior- and senior-level courses from SFASU on the TJC campus.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with universities and community colleges in Texas to provide a seamless social work education process for students,” Lassanske said. “I am honored to have been selected to be a member of the Social Work FOS Advisory Committee.”
