The TJC Apache Belles and Band continue to celebrate their 70-year anniversary, and they now have an ornament on the Texas House of Representatives Christmas tree, thanks to a creative student.
Molly Mosby, a freshman Apache Belle from Rockwall, created the ornament, which was hung on the tree in the State Capitol building Austin by District 6 State Rep. Matt Schaefer. Mosby’s design for the commemorative ornament incorporated the Belles and Band 70th anniversary logo, the school’s black and gold colors, and feathers for TJC’s Apache mascot. She also used roses, which represent the city of Tyler.
“I am very proud of Molly and the creativity she used in her design,” said Apache Belles Director Jasilyn Schaefer, who is also the wife of Rep. Schaefer.
“I’m so excited to be a part of the Apache Belles, especially during our 70-year anniversary,” Mosby said. “I personally love Christmas and was so happy to use my artistic abilities to create the special ornament.”
Mosby is pursuing her associate’s degree in general studies and plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete her bachelor’s degree in art and marketing.
She is happy to have completed her first semester at TJC and has plans to spend the Christmas holiday with family and friends. First, however, she and her mom have a trip to Austin planned so she can see the Texas House Christmas tree.
About the Texas House Christmas ornament project
Each year, House members are invited to select a constituent to imagine and create a visual representation of what makes their Texas House District special.
These artistic endeavors – in the form of an ornament – decorate a majestic 23-foot, Texas-grown Christmas tree that will stand in the House Chamber of the Texas Capitol during the holiday season.
Now in its ninth year, the district ornament project has proven to be a fun and educational experience for the Capitol’s thousands of holiday visitors, who enjoy seeing artists’ depictions of what makes communities throughout Texas unique. The tree is on display through Jan. 2.
