Police investigating report of sexual assault

TJC Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a female TJC student. Campus Police were summoned to East Texas Medical Center Sunday evening by Tyler Police, who were called after the arrival of a patient. The responding TJC officers arrived at ETMC at 5:57 p.m. as the student was undergoing treatment.

A timely warning notice was issued to the campus community via emergency text, email and social media as soon as preliminary details were provided by initial interviews with the student and her relatives. Notices to the campus community were distributed at approximately 7:48 p.m. The warning notices contained information about the reported location of the alleged assault as well as a description of the suspect. Interviews with the student, relatives of the student and others on the main TJC campus were conducted over the next three hours.

Students residing in the Ornelas A hall, where the assault allegedly occurred, were summoned for a meeting with Campus Police. Officers informed students of the report, provided a suspect description and briefed them about campus security reporting and detection capabilities.

Based upon interviews, Campus Police believe the alleged assault occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 16.

The student was released from ETMC Sunday evening and left the hospital with her relatives.

TJC Campus Police are continuing to investigate.
