TJC science center to host star party Sept. 22

Published Wednesday, 12th September 2012

The Center for Earth & Space Science Education at Tyler Junior College will host a star party Saturday, Sept. 22.

This free, public event is held in partnership with the Astronomical Society of East Texas and the TJC Society of Physics Students/American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

"We will have telescopes set up outside starting at dusk, and the show will go on no matter the weather," said center director Dr. Tom Hooten.

Hooten said the center will be open to the public for free during the star party, and the live night sky will be projected in the dome theater.

Suited for Space, a traveling Smithsonian exhibit on the development of space suits, is on display through Sunday, Nov. 18.

The center reopened last year after a yearlong renovation that doubled the size of the building and added an 85-seat theater equipped with a 40-foot, tilted dome and Digistar 4, which offers the latest in digital projection technology.
