Critchlow named new TJC head football coach
Former Tyler Junior College assistant football coach Jamie M. Critchlow was named head coach of the Apaches today during a news conference held at TJC’s Wagstaff Gymnasium.
Critchlow replaces Dale Carr who served as head coach for nine seasons, compiling a record 65 wins and 32 losses, including an 8-4 record in 2004. The Apaches finished their season with a 15-10 loss to Hutchinson (KS) in the Heart of Texas Bowl. Carr announced December 20 that he had accepted the head coach position at Angelo State University.
Critchlow served as assistant coach for offensive line and the running game at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2004. He previously served as an assistant coach at TJC, 1998-2003, supervising the offensive line.
"Jame Critchlow understands the dynamics of football in this conference and is poised to take the reigns and continue a winning tradition," Dr. Tim Drain, TJC director of intercollegiate athletics.
Critchlow played for the Apaches in 1993 and 1994 and was First Team All-Conference in 1994. He transferred to Oregon State University, where he was named a PAC 10 Honorable Mention in 1996 and won the Beavers’ Dee Andros Heart Award as a senior in 1996. He completed his associate’s degree at TJC in 1994, his bachelor’s degree at Oregon State in 1997 and his master’s degree at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2001.
While an assistant at TJC, Critchlow helped the Apaches to the 2000 Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship and appearances in four postseason bowl games: the 1997 Real Dairy Bowl; the 2000 Red River Bowl; the 2001 Red River Bowl and the 2003 Heart of Texas Bowl.
During Critchlow’s tenure at Tyler Junior College he coached 5 All-American lineman and 11 Division 1 signees.
Jamie is married to the former Stephanie Thayer of Kemmerer, Wyoming. They have two children; Carley, age 3 and Colton, age 2.
"It's certainly great to have Jamie and Stephanie and Carley and Colton back in the TJC family," said TJC President Dr. William R. Crowe.
