for several years, he was supervisor/liaison between TISD and U.T. Tyler for
student teachers majoring in Music Education.
In 1995 Mr. Marta received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the East Texas
Baptist University Music Department. The E.T.B.U. Music Department recognized
him as an exemplary alumnus who represents the quality and character of the
university in his chosen vocation. He also served on the piano selection committee
for East Texas Baptist University when the present music building was constructed.
Mr. Marta is included in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1996, 2002,
2004, and 2005 thanks to former Tyler Junior College students. Some of these former
students have graduated from Tyler Junior College, completed bachelor, master, and
doctorate degrees and are now college/university professors, musicians who now score
music for films, public school music teachers, and worship leaders. In Fall 2008 Mr.
Marta was selected by a committee of his colleagues as a runner-up for the Tyler
Junior College Mattie Alice Scroggin Baker Excellence in Teaching Award.
In the East Texas region, Mr. Marta has served as organist or organist/choir master for
various churches. Also, in this area, he has played organ dedication recitals and has
conducted church organ workshops. As an organ consultant, he has been involved in
church committee planning for rebuilding pipe organs. He also tunes, repairs, and has added additions to several pipe organs in this area.
