DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: A highly select
popular vocal group. We perform everything from the old classics to today's current hits. Admission by audition.
Organized in 1971, Harmony and Understanding
is a select group of students from the Tyler Junior College A Cappella
Choir. The group averages about 25 appearances a year, including
such events as:
* Dallas Cowboys half-time shows
* State Fair of Texas
* Texas Rose Festival
* Miss Texas Pageant
* July 4th celebrations at the Cotton Bowl
* Texas Breakfast Club in Washington, D.C.
* Nice, France - Carnival
* Schools, conventions, and on national television
* Yachiyo, Japan - Sister City Concert
* London Millennium Concert Series and Parade
* Branson On Stage Live
* Military Bases, Hawaii
* Ramstein Air Force Base
The repertoire includes a wide variety of music,
from nostalgia tunes to the now songs of today's younger generation.
The students sing, dance, and play instruments in the act--in the
process, each member develops his or her own special talents.
Harmony and Understanding is directed by Angie Smith. Dance instructor is Candy Crocker Jordan.
Tyler Junior College enrolls over 10,000
students a semester and is considered the largest single campus
junior college in the state. It offers a wide selection of music
courses for beginners and accomplished music students, in addition
to those students in other fields who just want the sound of music
in their lives. Various instrumental and choral ensembles and
