Mr. Kerry Baham joined the Tyler Junior
College music faculty in 1997. He currently instructs sophomore
theory, music literature, class piano, private lessons in piano,
accompanying, and serves as the accompanist for the A cappella Choir.
As a Teaching Fellow, Baham received
his master’s degree in piano performance from the University
of North Texas. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in
the same from Southeastern Louisiana University. Additionally,
he received a scholarship to study in Vienna and Salzburg through
the University of Miami’s program at Salzburg, Austria.
His teachers have included David Evenson, Jack Roberts, Nicola
Frisardi, Joseph Banowetz, and Harold Heiberg.
Mr. Baham has been awarded top prizes in solo
competitions on state, regional, and national levels. Among these
are the Collegiate Artist and Wideman International Piano Competitions.
In addition to performance awards, Mr. Baham has also garnered academic
awards, among which is his being named a Doctoral Scholar at the
University of North Texas. An active accompanist as well as soloist,
Mr. Baham has collaborated with winners of the Metropolitan Opera
Auditions in concerts in the United States as well as Europe.
He has been featured as guest artist with the
New Orleans Junior Philharmonic and Monroe, Louisiana Symphonies
and with the Jackson, Mississippi Symphony. Baham’s playing
can be heard as an artist on the Eroica
label, where he is involved in recording the complete
Mozart piano sonatas. His professional affiliations include the
Texas Music Teachers’ Association,
the Music Teachers’ National
Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
