Spanish Courses & Descriptions
Conversational Spanish I
(Span 1300) An introduction
to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture through conversational
patterns using audio-visual and communicative materials with an
emphasis on oral performance; for beginning students.
Conversational Spanish II
(Span 1310) An continuation
of Span 1300. This course is also offered through instructional
television.
Prerequisite: Span 1300 or equivalent.
Conversational Spanish II for ITV (Span 1310) A continuation
of Span.1300, Spanish language and culture through conversational
patterns using audio-visual and communicative materials with an
emphasis on oral performance: Not
for beginning students.
Elementary Spanish I (Span 1411) The
audio-lingual and communicative approach with extensive use of audio
and video cassettes to teach all facets of the language in a cultural
setting; for beginning students. This course fulfills the foreign
language requirement for a foreign language for the B.A. degree. Check with your transferring university.
Elementary Spanish II (Span 1412) A continuation
of 1412 using extensive use of audio and video cassettes in a cultural
setting.
Prerequisite: Span 1411 or equivalent.
Intermediate Spanish I (Span 2311) Advanced Spanish
grammar, vocabulary building and review of all verb forms for composition
in an audio-video and communicative format; conducted mainly in
Spanish.
Intermediate Spanish II (Span 2312) A continuation
of Span 2311. Includes a novel of a major Hispanic author along
with a more in-depth look at verbal patterns.
Conversational Spanish (Span 2306)
Basic practice in comprehension and production of the spoken language. A continua-tion
of Spanish 1310. This course is only offered through instructional television. Only 6
semester hours of Converstional Spanish is permitted for the degree program.
Conversational Spanish for Health Professionals
(Span 2316)
An introductory course for health professionals providing essential
insight into the cultural make-up of Spanish speakers while manipulating
linguistic structures in cultural context. This
course is designed with an emphasis on terminology and culture for
medical professions. Consent of the instructor.
Conversational Spanish for the Educator (Span 2317) An introductory course for the educator providing essential insight into the cultural make-up of Spanish speakers while manipulating linguistic structures in cultural context. This course is designed with an emphasis on terminology and culture for the educators. Consent of the instructor.
