Adjunct Faculty Bios
Mike Bishop, M.B.A.
Mike Bishop has been an adjunct professor at Tyler Junior College since 2009, teaching in both the Criminal Justice and Public Administration programs. He holds an Associate's degree in Industrial Security from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Texas at Tyler, and a Master of Business Administration from LeTourneau University. Included in his graduate work are courses in both Criminal Justice and Public Administration. Bishop is also a graduate of the East Texas Police Academy.
Chief Bishop began his law enforcement career in 1984 in the United States Air Force as an Aerospace Weapons Systems Security Officer. After a Honorable Discharge in 1989, Bishop joined the Longview, Texas Police Department as a Police Officer, where has been employed for over two decades. During his time in Longview, Chief Bishop has worked as a Patrol Officer, Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, Lieutenant and currently as an Assistant Chief of Police for his department.
While at Longview PD, Bishop has been awarded the Meritorious Service Award, the Marshall Sowers Award, and the Supervisor of the Year Award. He holds a Master Peace Officer license and Instructor certificate from TCLEOSE. He is also a graduate of the Command Staff Leaderships Series of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute.
Among his duties at the Longview Police Department he serves as the Assistant Chief over the Administrative Division and works close with their city manager and other city supervisors in the governing of their city.
