Surveying and Mapping Camp

Registration for the 2015 Tyler Junior College Surveying and Mapping Camp has closed.

The Surveying and Mapping Summer Camp, offered at the Tyler Junior College main campus, is a public service introducing young people to surveying and mapping activities and career opportunities in the surveying profession. The camp is conducted free of charge to the students who participate.

When: June 7-9, 2015 (Sunday - Tuesday)

2015 Schedule

Sunday

  • 4-6 p.m.: Check In/Registration - Ornelas Residental Hall (Palmer St.)
  • 6-9 p.m.: Pizza, Bowling, and Miniature Golf
Monday
  • 7-8 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 8-9 a.m. - Welcome to TJC, overview of program and break into teams
  • 9-9:30 a.m. - Introduction to GPS and Geocaching
  • 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. - Geocaching Activity
  • 12-1 p.m. - Lunch
  • 1-2 p.m. - Introduce the problems each group will have to solve (traversing, leveling, chaining and orienteering, GPS), equipment, and group instructions
  • 2-4 p.m. - Prepare for following days competition
  • 4-5 p.m. - Surveying Competition (setting up instruments, etc.)
  • 5-6 p.m. - return to dorm, clean up
  • 6-10 p.m. - dinner and movie

Tuesday

  • 7-8 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 8-9 a.m. - Team Practice time
  • 9 a.m.-12 p.m. - Teams will complete each surveying problem
  • 12-1 p.m. - Lunch and 3D laser scanner demonstration
  • 1-3 p.m. - Surveying the internet, CADD drafting and Leica Cyclone 3D software
  • 3-4 p.m. - Each team will present the results of their surveying exercises
  • 4-4:30 p.m. - Award Presentation
  • 4:30-5 p.m. - Return to dorm, clean and pack for home
  • 5-6 p.m. - Planetarium exhibits and show
  • 6-7 p.m. - Fish fry dinner
