Skills/Competencies

The following is a list of skills/competencies that each student will develop upon successful completion of each Surgical Technology course.

SRGT 1405 – Introduction to Surgical Technology – upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Participate as a member of the operating room team, providing patient care
  • Demonstrate surgical conscience by exhibiting professional conduct
  • Have knowledge of operating room environment and environmental safety

SRGT 1409 – Fundamentals of Perioperative Concepts and Techniques – upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Practice principles of aseptic technique, including creating and maintaining a sterile field, and recognizing breaks in aseptic technique
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate instruments, equipment and supplies for selected surgical procedures

SRGT 1541 – Surgical Procedures I – upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant anatomy, pathology, and diagnostics for selected surgical procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the sequence of selected surgical procedures

SRGT 1266 – Practicum I – upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care routines
  • Creates and maintains the sterile field and participates as a member of the health team
  • Exhibits surgical conscience, professional and ethical conduct at all times

SRGT 1542 – Surgical Procedures II- upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant anatomy, pathology, and diagnostics for selected surgical procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the sequence of selected surgical procedures

SRGT 2466 – Practicum II – upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care routines
  • Creates and maintains the sterile field and participates as a member of the health team
  • Exhibits surgical conscience, professional and ethical conduct at all times
