All of the rest of the participating team members have at least 2/3 of their qualification accomplished for at least one event as well. This is very early in the season for this and the coach is very proud of the team's hard work and determination!

September 25-27
Forum in the Forest Swing

The Tyler Junior College Forensics team traveled to the Forum in the Forest tournaments this past weekend. We returned victoriously winning Third place Overall Sweepstakes in the first tournament and Second place Overall Sweepstakes in the second tournament. We were only beat by the University of Texas at Austin and McNeese University in the first and only by UT Austin in the second. We beat other universities such as Rice University and Texas A & M University and all of the community colleges in attendance. (Special Note: The UT speech team had 25 students in competition, we had 6!!!) Our percentage of 'breaking' students to finals was over 50%, which is a very high percentage in forensic tournaments. Here are the individual winners from this weekend:

Forum in the Forest, Part I hosted by Rice University (on Friday and Saturday)

September 18-20
Hill Country Swing

The TJC Forensics team has just returned from their first tournament of the year. They attended the prestigious Hill Country Swing, two tournaments hosted back to back at Texas State University in San Marcos and the University of Texas at Austin, September 18-20th. Six students attended from TJC and all did very well in competing against predominately university students. Our freshman from Grand Prairie did exceptionally well:

Texas State University Tournament
1st Place - Jawoine Hawkins in Prose Interpretation
4th Place - Jawoine Hawkins in Dramatic Interpretation

University of Texas at Austin Tournament
2nd Place - Jawoine Hawkins in Prose Interpretation
2nd Place - Jawoine Hawkins in Dramatic Interpretation

This impressive performance by Jawoine means that he already has two events 2/3 qualified for national competition (very difficult to do in two tournaments, especially in your first college tournaments!)

Some of the universities competing in the tournaments, besides the host schools, included Kansas State University, Oklahoma University, West Texas A & M, McNeese University and the University of Texas at El Paso.
