School of Nursing and Health Sciences

This document lists the accreditation/state certification agencies and most recent review dates for each of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences programs at Tyler Junior College.

Each of the fifteen (15) programs with national and/or state certification or accreditation is listed below with the date of last comprehensive review in parenthesis. 

Associate Degree Nursing (2018)

The ADN Program is approved by, and completes an annual report to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). 

Most recent site visit: February 7-8, 2018. 

A certificate of program approval for 2018-2020 is on file.

Pre-accreditation status granted October 20, 2017, from the National League of Nursing, Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation.  Site visit completed October 7-9, 2019.

Dental Hygiene (2016)

Accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (ADA)

Most recent site visit:  April 27-29, 2016, no recommendations or findings

Approval without reporting requirements, August 2016

Next site visit scheduled for 2023

CODA Annual Survey (report) due by the end of October each year.

Dental Assisting (2016)

Accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (2019)

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

Most recent site visit:  August 5-6, 2019.

Program reaffirmation of accreditation self-study to be submitted September 2023.

Next program site visit will be in Spring 2024

Human Services—Addiction Counseling

Certified by the Department of State Health Services

Medical Laboratory Technology (2018)

Accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

NAACLS representative site visit was April 12-13, 2018. The remaining steps in the process are as follow:

  1. Accreditation for our program will continue until October 31, 2028.
  2. As a result, our MLT program will commence renewal of accreditation with the submission of a Self-Study report on October 1, 2027 and scheduling of a site visit during Spring 2028.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (2015)

Accredited by American Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

Next site visit scheduled in Academic Year 2020-2021.

Physical Therapist Assistant (2015)

Accredited by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)

Initial site visit:  April 13-15, 2015.  Accredited April 26, 2017 – June 30, 2022

Radiologic Technology (2016)

Accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)

Most recent site visit:  July, 2016

Accreditation status:  eight (8) years, the maximum a Radiologic Technology Program can earn.  Date of award:  December 16, 2016. 

Next scheduled site visit: Third Quarter, 2024.

Respiratory Care (2016)

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Last site visit October, 2016.  Next site visit scheduled for October, 2026.  CoARC has changed the usual reporting cycle due to a website restructure.  Last report was March 2019 for 2018 data.  Next report is due February 2020 for 2019 data.  All reports are in good standing for continued accreditation. 

Surgical Technology (2015)

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Accreditation lasts ten years.  Last site visit was March 23, 2015.   

The Surgical Technology Annual report is due to the Accreditation Review Board on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC-ST/SA) every year at the end of July.

Ophthalmic Medical Assisting (Vision Care Technology) (2016)

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel (CoA-OMP)

Ophthalmic Medical Assisting Program was awarded continuing accreditation 2016.

Next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2021.

Vocational Nursing Certificate (2018)

The VN Program is accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) and completes an annual report each year.

Most recent site visit: February 7-8, 2018.  The final report of Board action resulting from that site visit and program self-study documentation resulted in full approval.  Next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2024.
