Open Computing Center/Technical Assistance Center
The Open Computer Center (OCC) provides registered students with an opportunity to use computing resources to support their class activities in an environment conducive to academic achievement.
The Open Computer Center (OCC) resources are located on the bottom floor of the Vaughn Library. The current configuration of the OCC offers more than 60 computing stations clustered around the stairwell and next to the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) desk. The OCC computing resources use virtual desktops that registered students login to using their Apache Access username and password. All students have access to the "Classroom/Lab - General Use" pool. Students in classes that require specialized software will also have access to a pool that contains that software as well as the campus standard software. Campus standard software includes browsers, Blackboard Instant Messenger, and Microsoft Office.

Open Computer Center Computers & Software
Each station in the open computer center connects to a virtual desktop when a registered student logins into the machine with their Apache Access credentials. Once the student has logged in, they will choose a virtual desktop pool to access. All students have access to the "Classroom/Lab - General Use" pool. Students in classes that require specialized software will also have access to a pool that contains their specialized software as well as the campus standard software. Campus standard software includes browsers, Blackboard Instant Messenger, and Microsoft Office.
You may be asked to present a valid TJC student ID card in order to use the OCC facilities. Students may be asked to surrender their ID card to the assistant or coordinator on duty and may be asked to specify the reason for the use of the computers to help us determine future computing needs. IDs will be returned when the student checks out of the OCC. Non-students who possess a Vaughn Library Courtesy cards may be able to use one of five computers set aside for their use. Please see OCC staff for assistance. All such courtesy card users must give precedence to currently enrolled TJC students if all other machines are in use.
Technical Assistance Center (TAC)
The staff of the OCC also serve as members of the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). OCC/TAC staff have been trained by the IT Service Desk to provide students with services such as password resets and virtual desktop pool entitlement issues.
OCC/TAC assistants and coordinators are on duty to assist patrons with getting started on the computer and to monitor the software and equipment. The OCC/TAC staff are not computer tutors nor should they be expected to be familiar with every program being used; however, they will assist as they are able.
The OCC/TAC is usually closed when the campus is closed, including national holidays, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
