Available Testing

Whether you are a new student, a current student or a community member, we offer a professional setting for you to take your exams. Through our Testing Services department, we offer many different testing and assessment services, including:

TSI Placement Testing: The TSI placement test will measure your skill levels in reading comprehension, writing/English, and mathematics. The TSI test fee is $35.00 for TJC current or prospective students and $50.00 for non-TJC students. Prior to taking the TSI Placement Exam, you must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity.

Bennett Mechanical Test: The Automotive Technology, Welding Technology, Electrical and Electronic Technology and HVAC & Refrigeration programs require you to take the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test (BMCT). This is a timed test and it is free.

CLEP: The TJC Testing Services department offers you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on the various CLEP examinations. To start, you will need to set up an account with CLEP at http://www.collegeboard.org/testing. Then schedule an appointment with the Testing Services main campus testing center to take the CLEP exam. There is an $80.00 testing fee paid online to CLEP when scheduling your exam. There is also a $25.00 proctoring fee paid on the day the appointment is made. ID required.

GED: The 2014 computer-based version of the GED measures skills in four subject areas.  All tests must be taken and passed to earn your high school equivalency diploma.  The amount of time required to complete the entire battery of tests is 420 minutes (7 hours). To schedule an appointment for the GED, please visit https://ged.com. You will need to create an account and follow the on-screen prompts for scheduling the testing. Please note GED testing is administered at the TJC West Campus Testing Center.

ACT and SAT: These tests are given on specific national test dates on Saturdays in a pencil and paper format. To register for the ACT and SAT, you must contact the program directly.

HESI Testing (only for TJC Students): The HESI Test is a comprehensive exam that evaluates the academic and social skills of new applicants to many of our Allied Health programs. This exam evaluates your math skills, reading skills, science knowledge, vocabulary, social interaction, stress level, learning style, and personality profile. We administer the HESI on a walk-in basis. The cost of the HESI is $50.00; the HESI GAP is $75.00. You must visit with a program representative prior to testing. Once approved, the program representative will provide you with a permit or ticket for the HESI exam.

Test Proctoring for Online and Hybrid Courses: At the instructor’s discretion, if students are enrolled in an online or hybrid course, they may take their exams in our Testing Center. Additionally, if the student is not local, they have the option of taking their online or hybrid tests at approved test sites, such as junior or community colleges, libraries or military bases. Information for students regarding Online and Hybrid Course test proctoring can be located at: http://www.tjc.edu/onlinecampus/info/16/test_proctoring. Tests are administered on a walk-in basis.

Pearson-VUE: Pearson-VUE is the global leader in computer-based testing for IT, academic, and professional programs. Through our authorized Pearson-VUE Testing Center on the West Campus, we offer a variety of computer-based tests on behalf of the world’s leading IT and professional companies, such as: ACSM, Adobe, Cisco, Microsoft, C++, Citrix, CompTIA, Excelsior College, Oracle, and VMWare.

To schedule a test with our Pearson VUE Testing Center, you will need to visit the following website: www.pearsonvue.com/programs. Follow all onscreen prompts to set up your Pearson-VUE account and to schedule your exam. Please note that you should arrive at our West Campus testing facility 15 to 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Two forms of ID are required, including one government issued photo ID.

Proctoring Services for Other Institutions: TJC will proctor tests for students who take correspondence, continuing education, or distance learning courses from other colleges and universities. There is a $35.00 proctoring fee for most test. These services can be arranged by calling 903.510.2051.

WorkKeys: WorkKeys is a division of ACT, Inc. that is dedicated to assessing what skills are necessary for employees to be successful in the workplace. ACT WorkKeys scores help job seekers compare their skills to the skills real jobs require. These scores help employers choose the most qualified candidates for their jobs.

  • To schedule your WorkKeys exam, please contact our TJC WorkKeys Site Administrator at 903.510.2389. To set up a testing account for you, the Administrator will ask for your name and birthdate. Testing starts promptly at 8:30 am each Friday and, thus, it is important to arrive at the TJC West Campus 15 to 30 minutes prior to your appointment. A government issued photo ID is required.
