Summer Financial Aid

Summer financial aid awards are available to students who have not exhausted their maximum eligibility of Pell grant and loans. Note: Installment plans and bridge loans are not available for summer classes.

How to Receive Summer Financial Aid

Current Students

Current students receiving financial aid from the fall and/or spring at TJC, who wish to receive summer financial aid, must complete the following:

  1. Register for all summer classes (including all Maymester, Summer I and Summer II classes).
  2. Students will be awarded any available grants first.
  3. Students with remaining loan funds may request summer loans by completing the Summer Aid Form.

*All forms are available on Apache Access on the financial aid traffic light menu.

New Students

New Students wishing to receive summer financial aid must complete the following:

  1. Complete a FAFSA. If you have completed a FAFSA for another school, you must add Tyler Junior College to your list of colleges on the FAFSA.
  2. Check your Apache Access traffic lights. All requirements must be satisfied to complete the awarding process for summer.
  3. Register for all summer classes (including all Maymester, Summer I and Summer II classes).
  4. Students will be awarded any available grants first.
  5. Students with remaining loan funds may request summer loans by completing the Summer Aid Form.

*All forms are available on Apache Access on the financial aid traffic light menu.

All students must pay for summer classes by the appropriate payment deadline regardless of their financial aid status. Failure to pay by the appropriate deadlines will result in being dropped from class(es). Students will be reimbursed once their financial aid is complete. Installment plans and bridge loans are not available for summer classes.

Summer Disbursement

  • Summer Disbursement usually coincides with the Summer I official reporting day (ORD). Initial refunds will follow on Monday thereafter.
  • Students who are receiving loan funds must be enrolled in a total of 6 hours for the Summer period. Loan funds will not disburse until the student has started attending at least 6 hours; therefore, loan funds may not disburse until Summer II for some students.
    • For example: A student registers for one 3 hour Summer I class and one 3 hour Summer II class. Since the student is not in a total 6 hours until the Summer II semester begins, loan funds will not disburse the first day of class for Summer II.
  • Students receive loan funds could also receive two disbursements.  Federal law requires all loans to have two disbursements.
    • For example: Students registered for all 6 hours in Summer I, may receive the 2nd disbursement of loans in Summer II.
