He cannot kill the firebird but releases her with the promise of her help, should he ever need it. Along his journey, he falls in love with Yelena the Beautiful who is a prisoner of the crazy King Ketschi. He follows her to the castle. The crazy king kidnaps travelers and turns them into his crazy servants. Ivan is captured and Ketschi tries to place him under his spell. The firebird comes to his rescue.
