A dental hygienist is a licensed preventive health professional, an auxiliary to the dental community, whose educational, clinical and therapeutic practices promote total well-being through the maintenance of optimal oral health.
The Tyler Junior College (TJC) curriculum in Dental Hygiene leads to an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and begins in the fall session of each year. Enrollment is limited to accepted applicants. The application process is listed below under “Application Guidelines”. The full-time dental hygiene curriculum at TJC holds full accreditation from the American Dental Association. Whether the individual’s interest is working in a general or specialized dental office; dental clinic; public health; schools; or research, the program provides the student with the basics for furthering his or her professional and educational needs.
