Leonardo & Libations
Leonardo spent most of his life in three regions that produce some of the world’s most prestigious wines, Tuscany, Piedmont, and the Loire Valley. This special event will feature a tasting of some very interesting red and white wines from these regions and wine education from Dr. Mark Wagstaff, certified sommelier through the lens of the travels and creations of the great genius of the Italian Renaissance. In addition, experience a hands-on exhibit that illustrates the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci at TJC’s Center for Earth and Space Science Education. Leonardo da Vinci is revered for his technological ingenuity and was truly was the quintessential Renaissance man. He he was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. His genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. He conceptualized flying machines, an armored vehicle, concentrated solar power, an adding machine, and the double hull, also outlining a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. He was born in Tuscany, served the court of the Sforzas in Milan, and spent his final days at the Château d’Amboise in the France’s Loire Valley as the guest of King Francis I.
