Scholars Academy

We introduced Scholars Academy at TJC in the fall of 1999 to provide a variety of enriched academic experiences for talented and motivated students. Our program offers in-depth study of basic courses in small classes with twenty or fewer students. Academy classes combine challenging curriculum with creative instruction. Outstanding instructors who have expressed an interest in working with honors students teach our classes. Instructors emphasize creative thinking, scholarly research, connections among disciplines, and both collaborative learning and independent study. Seminar discussions are central to the curriculum. Scholars are exposed to a number of enrichment activities, including campus speakers, mentoring by community leaders, field trips, and opportunities to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. They have their own special lounge area on the third floor of the Rogers Student Center, where they can study, build friendships, and engage in stimulating conversation with other bright minds. While there, they can also use the six computers reserved exclusively for them to do homework, surf the Web, or email family and friends.
