Automotive Technology Program
Ultimate Program Goal: Provide skilled entry level employees for the multiple areas of automotive industry.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
ASE Logo The Automotive Technology Program offers courses in the latest technologies available in the automotive service industry. In-depth training prepares you for an entry-level job or enables you to upgrade your job skills if you are currently employed. In the classroom you learn the theoretical aspects of automotive diagnosis, repair and service. You then apply what you learn while working on late model vehicles in the Skills Training Center labs. You may also gain work-force experience by working at an automotive service center or dealership partner while enrolled at TJC. TJC actively supports volunteer ASE technician certification and comply with NATEF requirements.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
As a skilled technician, you may apply your specialized knowledge in a particular area. As an employee or owner of a small service business your expertise may require all areas. You may work in a large dealership, in an independent service center, fleet, in a specialty shop or for a mass merchandiser. Support businesses such as parts stores and machine shops also need your technical knowledge and skills. The program also offers training for Service Consultants.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
The U.S. Department of Labor projects that the automotive industry will be a growth industry for the next several years. As a graduate of one of TJC's four certificates or Associate Degree program coupled with two or three years of trade experience, you can expect to earn $30,000-$50,000 a year. If you go on to earn Master Diagnostic Technician status and proficiency, you can earn $60,000-$70,000 per year or more. Many Associate Degree graduates find their way into management positions with in 6-10 years of work experience.

ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE
auto classroomFor an associate's degree, you must complete a minimum of 50 credit hours in automotive technology in addition to a minimum of 12 credit hours in general education and 6 credit hours in electives.
