Health Information TechnologyOpen Enrollment Policies

In addition to general admission requirements (contact Admissions Office or see the TJC website), students enrolling in the Health Information Technology Program must meet the requirements listed below. 

1.  Students must be TSI-Reading complete before enrolling in any HITT course except HITT1305 and HITT 2331.

2.  Students must consult with the Program Chair or Academic Advisor before enrolling in courses each semester.

3.  HITT courses must be taken in sequence and may have a prerequisite course. 

4.  Before a student can participate in the first practicum course (HITT 1167) they must have a criminal background check and drug screen. They must also have a physician’s examination; immunization records; and Hepatitis B inoculation statement of intent.  Failure to submit all required forms within one week of the beginning of the semester will result in the student being dropped from the practicum

5.  All accepted students must maintain a "C" (77%) or better in all required HITT courses and a “C” or better in the other curriculum courses. Students dismissed from the program who wish to re-enter must make an appointment with the department chair. Re-admittance will be reviewed by The Admissions Committee.

6.   In order to graduate from Tyler Junior College with an Associates Degree in Health Information Technology, students must meet Tyler Junior College’s General Requirements for All Degrees (see Catalog) as well as completing the Health Information Technology curriculum.
